Jayasuriya a surprise selection for pickings in SLPL

It was indeed a surprise that sprung in electing to pick former legend Sanath jayasuriya at a maximum price of US dollars 35,000/   He was one among six players who fetched this amount. The others drafted in were Dinesh Chandimal, Chamara Kapugedera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thissara Perera and Rangana Herath. These players are among the total od 107 players dratted for the SLPL by the Sri Lanka Cricket authorities.

 The legendary Sanath Jayasuriya now 43 years old was elected by the franchises to play in the Indian Premier league for three seasons .But as he did not impress at all he was not auctioned by any one for the IPL season 4 concluded recently. He represented Mumbai Indians and opened batting with the world’s leading run scorer in Tests and ODI’s having scored 100 international hundreds.

Thissara Perera and Nuwan Kulasekara were the second and third players who were in demand to be selected next for the Kandurata and Nagenahira teams respectively. According to reports received by the SLC Chamara Kapugedera was picked for the Uthura team by the SLC.

Rangana Herath was selected only in the second round and would play for Basnahira. Chminda Vass former Sri Lanka fast bowler, who had taken the most wickets for a pace bowler was selected for a sum of only $25,000 and selected by team Wayaba in the 11^th round selection.

56 foreign players were picked on Thursday by the seven franchises’ through a special draft system, giving each franchise an initial list of 24 players to select from preliminary list of 24 players. The teams will now be reduced down 18 players comprising of 6 foreign and 12 Sri Lankan players.. The rest comprising of six players – Four Sri Lankan and two foreign players- which will become the other part of the players. In the event of an injury to one player he could be replaced from one in the supplementary list of players.

Adam Voges is a player from the supplementary list plays for is a member of Nottinghamshire T/20 team is to represent Kandurata, But he needs permission from Trent Bridge to participate.
