Nagas beat Ruhuna Royals on D/L method
Nagenahira Nagas beat Ruhuna Royals by 5 runs (on D/L method) in the curtain raiser of SLPL, played at R. Premadasa International Stadium, Colombo, on Saturday. Chasing a victory target of 135, Nagas were 77 for 2 wickets when rain interrupted play, after 12 overs.
After losing two for 37 in the seventh over, middle order batsmen guided Ruhunu Royals to a comfortable 134 on a slow track where the ball doesn’t come on to the bat. Lahiru Thirimanne hit 34 off 33 balls while two seasoned internationals, Shahid Afridi (18 off 12 balls) and Chamara Silva (14 off 11 balls) came up with lusty hitting.
Off Spinner, Ajantha Mendis returned to the limelight with three wickets, in his first competitive game after eight months, after a back injury. He removed Aaron Finch in his first over and later dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne and Wahab Riaz to claim three for 34, in a costly attempt.
Paceman Shaminda Eranga, who claimed 3 for 15 in his four overs, bowled best for Nagenahira Nagas.
