Sri Lanka Premier League 2012 (SLPL) tournament to be start from August 10 to 31
It has been announced and confirmed by the Officials of Sri Lanka Cricket that the initial Sri Lanka Premier League 2012 is get off the blocks during the month of August this year prior to the ICC World T/20 tournament to be held in Sri Lanka during the month of September 2012.The inaugural edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League. The tournament is scheduled to be held during the period 10th August to 31st August this year.
There will be only seven teams representing the seven provinces in Sri Lanka. The teams have been named as BASNAHIRA BEARS, KANDURATA KITES, NEGENAHIRA NAGAS, RUHUNU RHINOS, UTHURU ORYSES, UVA UNICORNS and WYAMBA WOLVES.Each team just like in the IPL DLF Premier LEAGUE would consist of only 4 overseas players. This is a mandatory for each of the seven teams. The rest would be players from Sri Lanka. They also should be those who have played at national level or in the Premier league. There is one more condition in selections that is each team should consist of one player who is promising and should be under 21 years in age.
All together there would be 24 matches and would be played only at just two venues. They are the R. Premadasa International Stadium, and the Pallekele International cricket stadium in Kandy. It is also reliably learnt that all matches are to be telecast worldwide ‘Live’.
The island’s cricket authorities said they were confident of the participation of Indian and Pakistani players in the SLPL, which will precede the ICC T20 World Cup hosted here between September 18 and October 7. The names of the participating cricketers and how they will be allotted to the seven teams will be announced later.
This tournament would be monitored by ICC, and would be played under the “SPIRIT OF CRICKET” concept.
