World’s Cricket Heroes for Sri Lankan Premier League Tournament (SLPL T20)
The whole world has focused their attention to the ongoing Indian Premier League Cricket Tournament.
As several internationally recognized cricketers are divided into separate teams and are playing the very popular shortest version of the game, T/20, and is 20 over aside game is of very special significance feature
It will bring immense pleasure for the cricket passionate fans to watch once again the heroes already etched in their in their minds who represented and performed admirably in the latest ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
The sudden decision taken by the Officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket has been interpreted by critics in various forms.
It has been revealed by the officials of Sri Lanka cricket that they have the confidence to conduct the SLPL tournament in the same manner or in a different style to make it even better.
It has been made clear that unlike in IPL in India the cricketers would not be subjected to an auction by an organizing committee, the organizers in Sri Lanka have categorically stated.
The Sri Lanka Premier League tournament is to be solely sponsored by a reputed company in Dubai and they will pick the teams and the payments would be made exclusively by them.
The preliminary round matches are to be scheduled by our SLC and the Dubai based company has agreed for the entire sponsorship.
Unlike the IPL in India, all conditions, rules and decisions of the SLPL would be under the sole purview of the SLC .This was disclosed by the SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranathunga.
The teams of the IPL were named from various admistrative districts and from reputed clubs. However the names of participating team together another special name is to go alongside it.
For the SLPL tournament seven teams have been named and it is due to commence on the 19th July and end on the 4th August, All matches are scheduled to be played at the Kettarama International Cricket Stadium.
The teams are named as follows:
Basnahira (Bears),Kandurata (Kites),Negenahira (Nagas),Ruhunu(Rhinos),Uthuru (Oryxes),Wyamba (Wolves),Uva (Unicorns)
For the SLPL tournament the organizers have invited 33 reputed cricketers from India,Pakistan,Australia,New Zealand,South Africa,West Indies and Bangladesh.
For a single Provincial team should comprise of seven local players and five foreign players. Among the seven local players at least one should be below 21 years old.
The payments that would be paid to the cricketers have not been declared yet. However the Chairman of SLC, D.S.De Silva disclosed that in this connection a media briefing is to be held in England next week with the participation of SLC Officials, Administrators, Organizers and the Sponsors.
No cricketer other than some captains from Sri Lanka has been nominated yet. However 12 players from India, 6 players from Pakistan, 4 players from Australia, South Africa, and West Indies have been nominated. The number nominated from New Zealand is one, while they have also selected one player each from Ireland and Bangladesh which comprises the 33 foreign players
From Australia kelum Ferguson,Dan Christian,David Warner and Shawn Tait.,Tamil Iqbal from Bangaladesh,Dinesh Karthik,Irfan Patan,Manoj Thiwary,Munaf Patel,Paul Welveti,Praveen Kumar.Ravichandran Ashwin,Ravindra Jadeja,Sawrash Thiwary,Vinay Kumar and Umesh Yadev from India,Kevin ‘O’Brien from Ireland,Daniel Vettori from new Zealand,Imran Nazir,Shahid Afridi,Shoaib Akthar,Sohail Tanvir,Umar Akmal and Wahab Riyas from Pakistan,Herschell
Gibbs,Longvabu Tostobhe and Makayi Ntini from South Africa,Chris Gayle,Danasa Hyat,Darren Bravo,Kiran Pollard from the West Indies have been selected to participate in this proposed tournament.
Those Sri Lankan players to be selected from the seven Provinces would be named later.
